The Stages of Buying
There are three stages of buying no matter what the product is:
- Awareness
- Discovery
- Solutions
Awareness
Awareness is the stage when you first become aware that you have a problem. For example you own a reliable car that is 5 years old. One day you may say to your self that maybe you need a new car. You have just become aware that you may have a problem and need a new car.
Discovery
You are aware that you may need a new car. So what do you do next? You start to do research about new cars you are interested in. This is the discovery stage. You are discovering solutions to your problem.
Solutions
This is the final stage. You are aware of a problem. You have discovered potential solutions to that problem. Now you must finalize a solution (buy the product).
As you can imagine. This process can be very fast or very slow. But most people who come to your site are in one of these stages.
What does all this mean to my site?
Because you want to be the solution to your visitors problem, you must have information for the visitor no matter what stage they are in. You want to help them move through the stages until they buy from you.
If you don't your competition will and they will get the sale.
